SEWL SISTA Creations features both traditional quilt items as well as unique, artistic quilt interpretations by artist Nneka Kusema. Some designs are simplistic, while others are more complex. Some are very colorful, while others utilize more subdued hues.

Artist Statement
I think I have been creative since the womb, but my earliest memory was using my mother’s eye shadow to draw a vase of flowers. I didn’t think she’d like that very much, but surprisingly she was supportive of my creativity. That was only the beginning….. I have had my hands in every medium from clay, paint, fibers, ink and everything in between. But I have come to find that my primary passion is fiber art. Fiber art is an art form that allows me to combine all the media I love in a creative, yet experimental way. Simplicity alongside complexity translates into works that embody the timeless craft of quilting in a contemporary manner. My works are often a combination of improvisation and moderate planning and inspiration is derived from life-long experiences and daily observations. Some are pieced or fused, some painted or printed, and others are a combination of different design and/or embellishment techniques.Whatever method is captivating at the time is what is employed.I am intrigued by the basic elements of art---particularly color, shape and texture, and the principles of harmony and rhythm are often brought into play as well.
I find satisfaction in utilizing fabric and thread to portray life’s moments, ephemeral thoughts and unwavering emotions in an intuitive and imaginative manner.It is my hope that while on this journey of self-expression, my art can invoke feelings of joy and inspiration in others.
